network-manager is OK for interfaces that are supposed to go up and down dynamically. Anything that has to stay up should be configured through /etc/network/interfaces as ever. I don't think there's much point trying to work around this limitation of n-m in nbd.

<p>If you want to pxe/nfsroot boot a box, have a look at the live* package from debianLive. From my point of view, nopwdays it's way faster and cleaner than the old deboostrap + manual patch.</p>
