With TiVo nobody understood the compliant RMS was making and tried to fix it with GPLv3. Now years later Sony, also Google in some way with its kills switch for Android, everybody starts screaming. Again Stephen Fry's comparison with plumbing is so true and everybody who still doesn't get it, we should enforce some kind of DRM on their wallsockets, light switches, water- and gaspipes, etc. Maybe then the message lands in some minds as that you need certain freedoms to survice. And this includes thinkering with stuff as most of those people may have bright idea in the near future. This is called learning and evolution of thing.
It sucks but no one has the right to complain about it... is it utterly ridiculous? Yes but it clearly states in the EULA one you don't own the software and two you can't do really anything to it:
"all System Software is licensed to users solely for personal, non-commercial use on the PS3™ system"
"You may not lease, rent, sublicense, publish, modify, adapt, or translate any portion of the System Software. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the System Software, or create any derivative works, or otherwise attempt to create System Software source code from its object code. You may not (i) use any unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software in connection with the System Software, including use of tools to bypass, disable, or circumvent any encryption, security, or authentication mechanism for the PS3™ system"
We all know it sucks but legally Sony is in the right and if you don't like it you shouldn't of agreed to the EULA. Not trying to be rude, just telling it as it is. Hopefully someday this will change.
