Printer on fire

Seems this message (which I have seen once or twice on my Linux systems) originated from a real failure mode in which the printer could, indeed, catch fire. Whoa.

Mean time, my own old Kyocera FS-1500 is dead; the drum is damaged to a level that confuses the printer somehow, so that it now always thinks there's no toner left. If this were any type of modern printer, I'd just replace the drum. In this particular case, that's not going to happen, though; this printer is from 1992, and neither the toner container nor the drum are replaceable; instead, you have to clean the drum with some device that's part of the toner kit, and you have to refill the toner container using the contents of a box of toner that's inside the kit. Trust me, toner powder is messy.
