Bubble maker
I don't believe in bottled water. The reason for that should be obvious to anyone who thinks about it for more than just a second, but in case you can't figure it out:bottled water sucks.
Since I moved out on my own, now over two years ago, I haven't bought the slightest amount of water other than through the tap. This wasn't a conscious decision, originally; it's just that I'm not a fan of non-sparkling water, and that buying 1.5L bottles of sparkling water would quickly reduce to non-sparkling ones by the rate I drink it, and I just didn't think it worth buying for that reason. As I came to realize that tap water is a fine beverage, and that for all practical purposes it is free—or mostly so, compared to bottled water—I stopped even considering the idea to buy bottled water.
But I do still like sparkling water every once in a while; and this weekend, I remembered that about a decade ago, an acquaintance who worked for Philips had shown me a prototype apparatus to generate sparkling water out of plain water in approximately 1L quantities. It was a prototype then, so I could imagine it being a product today. Googling around for a while found no Philips product of that type; but then I did find another company that specializes in such devices. Their devices are fairly cheap (or, at the very least, affordable). And the best part: it doesn't even require electricity (contrary to that prototype device I saw so many years ago).
One is on its way now. Wonder what it'll be like.
Hi there!
I have one of such devices and it works really well. What I've noticed is that different devices are set differently: Mine allows me to put a fairly amount of gas in the water (i.e. get more sparkling water) wrt to the one of a friend of mine (same producer, possibly different batch). I guess one could tweak it but I didn't want to (it's mostly made of plastic and I fear I could break it). I also like some of their syrups, but that's for another story
I hope you went for the glass bottle version, not the plastic one. The plastic bottles become... weird... rather quickly whereas the glass version lasts for ages and then some.
One thing to keep in mind: Sparkle only plain water. Syrup, juice, whatever goes into the bottle after you are done blasting CO_2 into it.
I got one of those "sparkling water makers" some months ago, it simply permits you to inject CO2 in the water (or in your beer or Cola, if you dare!).
I use tap water too when I can and filter it with carbon filters when it is bad quality, then I fill the bottle and inject some CO2 inside it.
It simply works, great.
You can adjust the CO2 level and so you can have various degree of sparkling water gas level, perfectly match or better of what you can buy around.
Mine is not philips and I think it is nothing experimental since at the small shop where I bought it you can find different models (bought in Italy).
It was a very good choice, I used it as a gift for friends in several situations.
