Folds.
I hate folds, too. In fact, it's the sole reason why I just removed the blogs of Laurent Gatto an Frederik Rousseau from Planet Grep, a Planet dedicated to Belgian FLOSS people.
In my arrogant opinion, a planet should be more than just a bunch of
links. If I want a bunch of links, I'll just read debian-www for a few days;
there'll be plenty of online casino
or so owners asking for us to
link back to them in that time. And rest assured, these people have a
bunch of links.
Instead, a planet such as Planet Debian, Planet Grep, or, say, Planet Gnome should be an easy read. A thing one can read top-to-bottom. Without having to follow links to be able to just read whatever people are talking about. And, the claim that folds help people ignore irrelevant stuff is just plain nonsense. If there's a post that I'm not interested in, I'm perfectly capable of using the scrollbar, thanks. It's no big deal; I do that for quite a number of blog posts already.

Example: search on Google for "Asterisk HFC" to know how to use HFC cards in Asterisk and you 'll find my blog giving the answer on the first page. It describes you how to compile the good kernel, how to use mISDN, etc, etc, etc.
Argh, it doesn't matter ... if you think I'm a sucker, that's your choice. You don't even know me.

I know, and your blog is, indeed, a great resource. I much respect you for that.I'm not saying you are a sucker. I'm saying that "I skip over 'sucker' blog posts that come with folds". It's too much effort (in my opinion) to follow the link to such posts.You're welcome to think otherwise; however, when I announced that I would start enforcing this policy, I received only one comment against it, but many, many replies from other people (both as comments on my blog and through mail) that they supported this. So this policy stands.
I agree that your blog is very nice; and if you stop using folds, you'll be more than welcome to rejoin Planet Grep. But this policy is about making Planet Grep to be a pleasant thing to read, more so than anything else.
Thanks for your reply. It makes your post "softer" ... al least for me.
But all the posts I'm doing, are parts of my blog. And my blog is a part of my life, especially teh FLOSS part of my life. And I will not change it.
The only remark about the next generation Planet Grep: it will be a FLOSS planet with only people speaking about the software they write themself and not what they are using. You only have to love it.
